What if you could . . .

. . .be a banker and see how money is made, spent, earned and saved at the Creative Discovery Museum for children? Did you know that the ancient Aztecs used chocolate for money, and Yap islanders used 500-lb. stones? Take a trip to Moneyville where you can put your face on a million dollar bill and even use high-tech equipment to find fake bills in an anti-counterfeiting lab.

MONEYVILLE EXHIBIT

In this colorful and vibrant city, you can explore how money is made, spent, saved, earned, and traded. Through a variety of fun, hands-on activities, explore the history, science, and culture behind money and come away with valuable math and economic skills you can use every day.

In the Money Factory you can find out how money is made, explore the history of money, put your face on a million dollar bill, explore security measures used in U.S. currency, and use high-tech equipment to find fake bills in an anti-counterfeiting lab.

Once you’ve made your money, see how it all adds up at The Bank. Discover how compound interest works and see what a million dollars looks like in the bank’s vault. You can even pretend to be a banker at a teller window that’s just your size! In Market to Market you can run your very own "lemonade stand," take the floor of a simulated stock market and compete with other day traders, or open shop at the Kids Market, complete with play money, fruit and vegetables, and produce scales. Test your Dollars and Sense by trying your hand at balancing a budget between needs and wants. Learn about the real cost of credit and discover how your budget savvy can help you in the real world. Explore Global Trade markets, the role of trade in world cultures, and how wealth is distributed around the world. Guess the mystery imports inside shipping crates and view a display of families and their possessions from around the world.

ANYTIME FUN AT THE CREATIVE DISCOVERY MUSEUM

Creative Discovery Museum makes learning child’s play! It is the only children’s museum and science and technology center within a 100-mile radius of Chattanooga. Designed especially for children 12 years old and younger, this place is full of hands-on family fun! Whether you create a clay sculpture in Arts Alley, build a K’nex car in the Inventors’ Clubhouse, dig for dinosaur bones at Excavation Station, or put on a play in the Back Alley Theatre, this Museum has it all. RiverPlay includes a 2.5 story high climbing structure, a multi-level play-aboard river boat, and an interactive watercourse where you and your kids can sail boats, learn about locks and dams, and shoot jets of water to make whirligigs spin! The Rooftop Fun Factory takes play outside and opens it up under a big blue sky. Moms, dads and kids use simple machines disguised as huge amusements to build family fun while they enjoy sound, movement and excitement high up on the rooftop. Parents can also spend time with their toddlers in the Little Yellow House, a special play area for infants and toddlers.
